Lapis Care was founded in 2015 by registered nurses Liz Blacklock and Hazel Daniel with a clear mission: to change the face of social care and demonstrate that care can be delivered with the sensitivity and consideration that people deserve.
We started as a small family business with big dreams and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Our founders recognized that the care industry needed a different approach – one that put compassion, clinical expertise, and genuine human connection at its heart.

I’m Liz, a Registered Nurse with 40 years’ experience and co-founder of Lapis Care.
After years as a community nurse, I kept hearing the same thing from patients: their carer hadn’t turned up or had come late. When I looked at why, it came down to how carers were being paid. Only for the minutes spent inside someone’s home, not the travel in between. We believe, if staff are genuinely valued, they look after clients properly. And in 2015, my husband and I set up the business to prove the theory.
Alongside running Lapis Care, I’m CEO of the Care Professional Organisation and have spoken widely in the media about the vital role care professionals play. I’m still very much a nurse at heart, and still have an active license.
Graeme’s background is in management accounting, and he has been involved with Lapis Care since the very beginning, mainly behind the scenes. During the pandemic he stepped in to help with care calls and hasn’t looked back. That experience gave him a real appreciation for the work our care professionals do and the difference it makes to people’s lives.
These days, Graeme is just as likely to be out visiting clients as he is working on the numbers — and more often than not, you’ll find yourself being serenaded during a care call.
Lena joined Lapis Care in 2017 as a Care Professional and is living proof that there’s a real career path in social care. Through dedication and skill, she has worked her way up to become our Registered Manager. Lena is passionate about delivering the highest possible standards and takes a hands-on approach that earns the respect of both her team and our clients. A firm believer in the power of teamwork, she enjoys collaborating with others to achieve common goals and ensure the very best outcomes. Wherever possible, she personally carries out the first few visits to make sure each care plan is accurate, tailored, and truly reflects the needs of the individual.
When she’s not at work, Lena is never happier than when she’s with her two beautiful granddaughters, who keep her smiling and busy in equal measure.
Laura joined Lapis Care in 2024 as our Office Administrator and quickly became an important part of the team. As well as keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, she can often be found out and about meeting new clients during their initial assessments. Her friendly, approachable manner helps set the tone for the care and support that follows.
When she’s not at work, Laura’s two little boys keep her extremely busy.
Manages administrative functions and supports the care team.
Alfie is our 6-and-a-half-year-old Cockapoo, named for his distinctive grey eyebrows. He loves nothing better than visiting clients before heading off on one of his walks. True to his gentle nature, Alfie will happily sit quietly at your feet while Graeme potters about carrying out your care.
